Ayurveda for Cramps

There’s a reason Ayurveda is so often touted as the ultimate solution for common ailments. Incorporating ancient Ayurvedic practices into your beauty regimen can help with anything from getting a better night’s sleep to achieving thicker brows. 

Control Cramps

Try this Ayurvedic solution to managing cramps: mix Aloe Vera with 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and consume up to three times a day. The anti-inflammatory properties of Aloe Vera combined with the antioxidants in black pepper will soothe your unpleasant cramps—the natural way.

Ayurveda can also help with excess bleeding during your period. Try drinking water stored in a silver container, or add some (clean!) silver coins to your water. You can also drink milk warmed in a silver container or with silver coins. Silver has excellent antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, and helps with internal heat regulation and circulation (in other words, aids with excess bleeding).

Get Thicker Brows

Are your brows looking a bit...sparse? Anything from hormonal changes to stress can cause hair to thin out over time. Castor oil is a great remedy used in Ayurveda practices to nourish hair follicles and promote hair growth (we even use it in our Intensely Nourishing Brow Oil because of its deeply moisturizing properties).

Use castor oil to achieve thicker brows by following this Ayurvedic remedy: Apply a cotton swab soaked with pure castor oil to each eyebrow, then gently massage eyebrows with your fingertips for 2-3 minutes. Leave the castor oil on for at least 30 minutes, then wash your eyebrows with lukewarm water. We like to apply this oil to our brows in the evening and leave it on overnight for maximum benefits.

Handle Hangovers

Within Ayurveda Ayurveda, ginger and peppermint are often used to cure physical ailments associated with the stomach. To soothe nausea and aid in the digestion of alcohol, chew a few small pieces of ginger or drink a cup of ginger tea (we like to add several slices of fresh ginger root to hot water). Peppermint is also a highly effective herb for relaxing the intestines and removing excess gas from the stomach. Try chewing a few peppermint leaves, or consume it as a tea by pouring 1 cup of boiling water over 5-10 peppermint leaves. Feel like you’ve been on one too many benders recently? Reset your system by adding triphala to your diet at night time and observing a day-long warm water fast. If fasting is not your thing, switch to this everyday detox with nourishing and cleansing khichdi.
